Implementing the campaign on a school day, as opposed to during summer holidays or the weekend, did not hinder attendance. On the contrary, classes were closed in order for students to attend Baalbeck’s campaign.
-
The sensitization meeting is a crucial step in planning the campaign specially to gain support from community leaders and schools.
-
The opening ceremony is a crucial part of the campaign day as it catalyzes media coverage of the campaign.
-
Rural participants were more receptive to the campaign and showed more enthusiasm than urban participants.
-
Another advantage of a rural setting was the close contact, familiarity, and credibility of the local focal person with key persons in the community, schools and NGOs which facilitated cooperation and attendance.
-
The nature of the partner association played a larger role in determining community acceptance than did the nature of the community itself.

The newsletter – one issue
A one day orientation workshop was held for media professionals on March 24 th, 2004, attended by 23 media professionals with the goal of involving National Media in promoting adolescent’s rights and SRH. The rapid need assessment of media personnel on issues related to ASRH, which was conducted by a consultant, constituted the main frame to develop the orientation workshop. The results of the media rapid need assessment were presented during the workshop.
The working groups were engaged in discussions that resulted in a number of recommendations presented in front of some media executives and senior government officials.
For media personnel to play a pro-active role in awareness on ASRH, they requested the workshop organizers to:
- Making updated information on ASRH issues available
- Gaining the support of media decision makers
- Availing necessary capacity building related to addressing Adolescents SRH issues in a creative, attractive and culturally sensitive manner
The IEC project would follow up on the recommendations emanating from the workshop by sustaining a media network including holding periodic short meetings with media representatives around specific relevant topics.
