Abstract

The brochure was developed to present the “Population and Development Strategies programme” (PDS) that aims at supporting the integration of population and development in related sectors towards improving the quality of life of the Lebanese people by alleviating their RH status, reducing gender gaps in socio-economic sectors, and achieving a balance between population dynamics and socio-economic development. The PDS programme that targets a wide range of stakeholders is considered to be the technical arm of the National Permanent Population Committee through conducting research, advocacy, disseminating knowledge and contributing to capacity development and institutional building. The brochure also highlights the project’s website www.pdslebanon.org that contains useful information on population and development.

    Abstract

    The advocacy kit is a tool to be used among various stakeholders including decision makers and planners/programmers on priorities and challenges in population and development in Lebanon. The various issues are linked to the targets of the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development as well as to the Millennium Development Goals. The kit focuses on the following 7 priority areas: (1) Poverty, (2) Gender Equality, (3) Reproductive Health, (4) HIV/AIDS, (5) Internal Migration, (6) External Migration, and (7) Environment.

    Abstract

    The document sets the general framework of population principles and priorities in Lebanon and provides a platform for developing a detailed executive plan of the population policy. The policy document consists of articles identifying Lebanon’s commitment to achieving ICPD targets. The policy document addresses issues such as External Migration, Internal Migration, Demography, Gender Equality, Equity and Empowerment of Women, Reproductive Health including Family Planning, and Environment. The document focuses on the important role of the Media in advocating for population and development matters.
